Who should do BSE?
Every woman should develop the habit of Breast Self Examination from the age of 20 years.
This is also called Breast Self-Awareness — knowing how your breasts normally look and feel.
When is the best time to do BSE?
Women who have regular menstrual cycles, 5–7 days after the completion of periods
Pregnant women or women after menopause Fix one specific date every month (e.g., the 1st or 10th of every month)
When & How Often?
Consistency is key. The process doesn’t need to be long or complicated—just a few minutes in front of a mirror or during a shower is often enough.
- Menstruating Women The best time is 3-5 days after your period ends, when breasts are least tender and hormonal changes have settled.
- Post-Menopausal Women Choose the same date each month (e.g., the 1st or 15th) to build a consistent habit.
⚠️ What Changes Should Not Be Ignored?
During your examination, look and feel for any of the following. If you notice these, do not panic—but do schedule a check-up:
A Note on Medical Screening
It is important to understand that self-examination does not replace medical screening. It is an additional layer of awareness.
Tests like Mammography or Ultrasound can detect changes long before they can be felt by hand. Regular check-ups with a specialist remain an essential part of complete breast health.
A Calm & Empowering Message
“Breast self-examination is about staying connected to your body. It gives you control, allowing you to act early and calmly if something feels different.”
Guidance from a dedicated breast specialist like Dr. Ashwini Jasani (Modi) helps ensure that any concern is evaluated thoughtfully, without unnecessary worry or delay.
